We all know that December is the month for good food, good wine, good company, and Christmas treats!
We took a sneak peek at the spending habits of our Oval community during December, and what these trends showed about the way they celebrated the festive season!
Boys vs. Girls 👱👩
This may come as a surprise, but on average our male Ovalers spent 13% more than our female Ovalers over the month of December!
This goes against everything we’ve been told about girls being shopaholics, and hopefully it means there will be some nice presents presents waiting under the tree on Christmas day!
Either that, or our male Ovalers just go way more wild at the office Christmas party.
Christmas past vs. Christmas present 🎄
Compared to the year before, everyone actually spent more in December 2018. Ovalers are a generous bunch! We don’t know exactly what you all spent it on, but we do know that men spent 8% more in December 2018 than they did in 2017, and women spent 7% more.
That’s a lot of Christmas presents!
The Generation game 👧👨🦳
It may come as no shock, but our youngest generation (Gen Z – who are at the moment between the ages of 4 and 24 and so the least likely to be earning their own income) spent less in December than any other generation.
Baby Boomers and Gen X though, spent 40% more than our Millennials. Baby Boomers spent the majority of their money in the “goods” category, whilst Gen X spent theirs in “Home and Family”... Christmas is all about family after all!
Finally, all our Italian Ovalers – no matter what their age – spent less in December 2018 than they did in December 2017! This is great news for those who aimed to tighten their belts!
What do you think your spending will say about you in 2019? Are you on track to spend or save more than you did last year?
