There is a good chance that if you ever wrote to the in-app support, you got a reply from a bot called Gilberto… surprise surprise, Gilberto isn't a bot, he's a real life person!
It's been a year since he signed his Oval contract, and in that time his tasks have grown significantly - thanks to his entrepreneurial spirit. If you’d like to personally wish him a happy Oval anniversary through the Oval chat, in the following interview you can find some suggestions on what he is passionate about. But beware of spelling mistakes, Gilberto can’t stand them :-)
Gilbe’s year in numbers:
💬 17.267 conversations with users
🥪 237 turkey sandwiches eaten
🎮 433 Fifa matches during lunch break
🚂 40 trains taken between Turin and Milan
🏃♂️ 1.613 Km run before 9 AM (and one half marathon with the Oval Team)
- What was your idea of Oval, before you started?
As I was about to join a start-up in an early stage of development, everything was a question mark. My biggest question was “what is going to happen in a few months?”
2. After working with us for a year would you say it was everything you expected it to be?
Yes, absolutely, and Oval even exceeded my expectations! I would have never thought to be already at this stage after only one year. This is part of the beauty of working in Oval: we all are building the app and the team day by day.
3. If you had your chance again would you take the opportunity to work with Oval?
Sure! I understood immediately that it could be a stimulating and interesting opportunity and not taking it would have been a huge mistake. I believe that a better opportunity would have been difficult to find.
4. What is your favourite thing to do outside of work?
I am a huge sports fan and I train almost every day. When my body tells me to chill, I like to read and keep myself informed about what’s happening in the world. The important thing for me is to be far away from the computer.
5. What is your favourite drink to order at the bar?
In the morning, coffee (strictly black) and freshly-squeezed orange juice.
In the evening Negroni and when the night goes on, just whisky.
6. If you could go on holiday anywhere in the world where would it be?
In the middle of the ocean, on a sailing boat. Alternatively, in an unknown place, as far out of my comfort zone as possible.
7. What is the one thing you couldn’t live without?
For sure it’s sport!
8. What is your degree in?
Sociology and sociological research.
9. What did you do before you started with Oval?
Before entering Oval, which was basically my first job, I studied for my PhD in sociology in Edinburgh (among kilts, haggis, bagpipes and whisky).
10. What’s your dream job?
A job that allows me to apply everything I was lucky enough to study and learn.
11. What’s your biggest fear?
To get trapped into doing something I do not like and that does not satisfy me.
12. What’s your biggest weakness?
I get angry too easily.
13. What’s your favourite quote/line?
It’s hard to think of only one but if I have to choose I would say “Est Modus in Rebus”, from Horatius’ Satire.
14. What did you want to be growing up?
When I was a child I think I changed my mind over 50 times but I remember for sure that for a certain period I wanted to be a pizza maker.
15. What would you like to be famous for?
To be remembered is not something I am particularly interested in. I would like, though, to contribute in any way or field, to the improvement of the society I live in.
