The sun is finally here, and if there’s one thing we Brit’s worship above all; it’s a cooling drink on a summers evening.
Let me take you on a tour of my favourite spots in London town where you can get a summer’s evening cocktail without emptying out your final pennies.
- Bar Story
Happy Hour: Two of the same cocktail for £7
Starting in the South (my stomping ground), I have to recommend Peckham Rye’s Bar Story. Sandwiched underneath two railway arches, this little bar kicks out some of the best cocktails in the south of the city.
It also has an outside area for you to soak up that fleeting English sun.
- Dirty Bones
Happy hour: Signature cocktails for £5
Another one of my favourite places in London, the Dirty Bones Shoreditch location has some old school classic glamour that can’t be missed. Although a little pricy outside of happy hour, during happy hour itself the houses signature cocktails’ are only a fiver each.
Which, trust me, are delish
- Seven at Brixton
Happy hour: any cocktail for £5
Another southern location, but it’s worth every stop on the tube to get to it. Seven at Brixton is a cute little tapas and cocktail bar located in Brixton market and is always full. So if you’re looking for an evening drink with a little atmosphere, it’s the place for you.
- Adventure Bar Clapham Junction
Happy hour: 2-4-1 cocktails.
Ok fine, you got me here; the cocktails are a wee bit over the £7 I promised but if you go at happy hour they work out at £5 each, so I feel I stuck to budget. My love of this bar stems mostly from the fact that it has over 50 cocktails to choose from and is a ten-minute walk from Clapham Junction.
A respectfully commutable cocktail, thank you very much.
- Coppa Club at Tower Bridge
Happy Hour: cocktails for £7
A little oasis right in the heart of the city, Coppa Club offers delicious cocktails in elegant surroundings, and a wonderful south-facing terrace that let’s you lap up that summer sun.
- Bar elba (http://www.bar-elba.co.uk/)
Happy hour: 2-4-1 cocktails
A similar pricing situation to that which I had with Adventure Bar above… but again, 2-4-1 makes it totally worth it!
Plus, it’s a roof top terrace in Waterloo with wooden decking and a laid back vibe that let’s you forget where you are. Need I say more? Enjoy!
- The Shack
Happy hour: 2-4-1 cocktails
Ok, hands in the air, I admit two things here.
1 – This isn’t strictly set in central London
2 – It probably won’t appear on any ‘London’s best of’ lists.
However, for me, it’s a little slice of home. Living and working in Twickenham meant that The Shack was a place I got to know well. It’s a place favoured by local university students and residents alike. It’s not exactly all about all about the elegance and finesse, but if you’re in the South West looking for sun, fun, and an unbeatable summer atmosphere that lacks any kind of ‘inner city pretention’ then I can PROMISE you – this is the place you’re after.
London is a city for living in!
